What does Amazon EC2 provide, and what must customers manage?
Amazon EC2 provides virtual machines and gives customers control over the instance type, operating system, patches, and application environment.
What kind of work suits AWS Lambda?
AWS Lambda runs event- or request-invoked functions without customer-managed servers. Standard invocations are designed for short-lived, stateless work and can run for up to 15 minutes.
What role does Amazon ECS play?
Amazon ECS is AWS’s container orchestration service. It can run tasks on EC2 instances or use Fargate to avoid managing servers.
What does AWS Fargate provide, and what is it not?
AWS Fargate supplies managed compute capacity for containers launched through ECS or EKS. It is not a container orchestrator by itself.
What is Amazon ECR used for?
Amazon ECR stores container images. ECS or EKS manages where containers run and their lifecycle; EC2 or Fargate supplies their compute capacity.
How do AWS Regions and Availability Zones differ?
A Region is a separate geographic area. It contains multiple isolated Availability Zones, which are separate locations connected by low-latency networking.
Does creating a resource in one Region automatically replicate it to another?
AWS does not automatically replicate every resource to another Region. Cross-Region replication or deployment must be designed where needed.
What is the difference between scaling out and scaling up?
Scale out means adding capacity; scale up means increasing the resources of an individual unit.
Why is scaling not the same as high availability?
Scaling adjusts capacity, but it does not by itself make an application highly available. The application must also tolerate failures, including an Availability Zone failure.
What is the basic AWS shared-responsibility distinction?
AWS secures the cloud’s physical facilities and underlying infrastructure. Customers secure their code, data, identity permissions, and service configuration; their responsibilities vary by service.
What factors determine standard AWS Lambda function pricing?
Standard Lambda functions are priced by request count and execution duration, with allocated memory affecting compute use. Intermittent work may suit this model, but sustained use should be compared with alternatives.
What workload is AWS Batch designed to schedule?
AWS Batch schedules large-scale batch jobs across AWS compute options, making it suitable for collections of scheduled or queued jobs.
