Call 911 for an open fracture, obvious deformity, severe bleeding, numbness or color change below the injury, suspected hip or pelvic injury, or multiple injuries.
What should be addressed before the limb injury?
Check for immediate life threats, such as unresponsiveness, breathing problems, or severe bleeding, and address them first within your training.
How should a suspected fracture be supported?
Ask the person not to use the limb and support it gently in the position found. Do not straighten it, push a joint back into place, test movement, or ask the person to walk on it.

Cover an open wound with a clean or sterile dressing. If it is bleeding, apply pressure to the wound while avoiding pressure on protruding bone; do not probe the wound or push bone back in.
